Our goal

Ellipse Therapy was created in 2019 after owner, Antoine Michel, saw an opportunity to fill a gap in how patient cases were assessed and treated. His goal is to help patients avoid wasting time and resources as a result of the mismanagement of their condition. At Ellipse Therapy, we diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal and other related disorders of the body’s structure by moving and stretching the patient’s muscles and joints to correct biomechanical dysfunctions.

Why Ellipse?

Ellipse (el·lipse) is defined as a regular oval shape, traced by a point moving in a plane so that the sum of its distances from two other points is constant, or resulting when a cone is cut by an oblique plane which does not intersect the base.

At Ellipse Therapy, we take the circle as an analogy. Life is cyclic and so is our journey of healing. We go beyond the symptoms by working thoroughly on the body to find the root of the pain. Through this method, patients can achieve a global range of motion and stability to the body.

The Primary Principles of Osteopathy Manual Therapy

1.

The body works as a whole

Osteopathic therapy seeks to treat and regain not only the symptomatic affected area but also to balance the whole body. For example, back pain may not originate from the back itself but could be caused by a misalignment in another area of the body. This misalignment places strain on the back as the body tries to compensate, resulting in back pain.

2.

The body is self-regulating and self-healing

The body will naturally do what is needed to return to equilibrium (keep a constant temperature, pH level, and more). It also has the ability to repair itself under the right conditions. Osteopathic therapy seeks to provide the body with the means to find this balance so that the body can repair and return itself to its natural healthy state.

3.

Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated

Osteopathy holds that a defect in one area reflects in on another. This means that, for example, if a vertebra (the structure) in your back is out of alignment, it could pinch a nerve and cause digestive issues (the function). It also means that the opposite is true and that if an organ is not functioning properly, it can cause back pain.

About Mr. Antoine Michel

Antoine Michel completed nearly a decade in multi-discipline training in France, offering therapy to both adults and children. He completed six years of full-time training in Osteopathy with continuance in gynecological, obstetrical and perinatal surgery observance. His passion for health and wellness led him to teach in Paris for several years.

Today, he practices in Calgary, Alberta with Ellipse Therapy and is registered with the Alberta Association of Osteopathic Manual Therapists. Ellipse Therapy is Antoine’s dream practice that he built from the ground up to offer Osteopathic manual therapy to people from all walks of life.

Antoine highly values providing much-needed care for children, having spent three additional years of training with pediatricians. Since beginning his practice in Calgary, he has collaborated with breastfeeding clinics across the city, helping infants, young children, and their parents navigate through their formative years.

Antoine and his team treat a range of health needs, including gut health, craniosacral therapy, and visceral manipulation. Each patient receives a personalized program that identifies and outlines the plan needed to treat joint discomfort, back and neck pain, and shoulder dysfunctions. Antoine operates his practice with a patient-first philosophy; a guiding principle that has established a strong reputation with his patients and other health practitioners.

What you can expect on your first visit

We start by learning more about you, your health history, your current conditions, concerns, and where you’re feeling the discomfort. Through this conversation, we can gain a better understanding of your goals.

After the initial consultation, your Osteopathic manual therapist will determine the best approach to therapy and/or other possible medical referrals if necessary. Through specific palpation (touch), the Osteopathic manual therapist assesses the body looking for mobility restrictions likely to impact the patient’s well-being. The therapist’s hands will search, find, and realign all of the structures with lesser mobility.

With Ellipse Therapy, you receive step-by-step therapy plans, thorough explanations, and a better understanding of your health needs. Our philosophy includes adapting to your needs and ensuring comfort with each visit.
